Tilga Guest Stay- Great country get away!We drove from Sydney to Canowindra for a 3 night stay, and to attend the annual 100 mile dinner event. For starters our hosts were terrific communicators, being very helpful with driving directions & key collection instructions. When we arrived and entered the house we were immediately struck with how large the cottage was! Certainly a full size house, much bigger than our own in Sydney! Three bedroom, main with a queen bed, walk in robe & ensuite bathroom. The two additional bedrooms were twin single-bedded. The main bathroom had a separate bath & shower, and the toilet was also separate. Then we walked down the hall to a massive dining room, another drawing room, and then into an enormous kitchen area with eating area and another area as a TV room. A large walk in pantry & a laundry off the kitchen with another toilet room.To say the house is fully equipped is an understatement. The pantry is well stocked with breakfast items and a whole assortment of other ingredients to assist with home cooking. Not sure if these had been left by previous guests after their respective stays but it made us feel very welcome. Not to mention the farm fresh eggs in the fridge & gorgeous cake freshly baked and left in a tin on the kitchen bench for us. We especially loved that there was a dishwasher! With just the two of us we could rinse and stack it, and only had to turn it on at the end of our stay! Who wants to wash dishes when they're on holiday :-) was great that we didn't have too!Lots of books to read, board & card games to play and a small selection of DVD's. Can imagine the house would be a wonderful place to bring a family for an extended stay, just relaxing and spending some time together. As it is a newly built house, it has fully ducted air conditioning. However the property has excellent insulation as even after a very hot day (over 30 degrees celsius) we only needed the ceiling fan to keep us cool overnight. The queen bed mattress was super comfy, just the right hardness. I suppose the only small problem I found after 3 nights on the pillows is I started coughing overnight again. Had totally forgotten my allergy to down pillows. And yeah it only shows itself after a few days exposure. Got back to Sydney to my own pillows & overnight cough was no longer. So maybe when the pillows require updating again (so they've reached their expiry date for hygiene reasons) maybe hypoallergenic ones would be good. My husband had no issues so it wouldn't be a problem for everyone. And regards allergies, it was excellent having tissue boxes readily available in various rooms too! I can highly recommend this accommodation for a stay of 3 or more nights to really appreciate it :-)
The accommodation at Tilga Guest Stay is wonderful. It is a spacious home with all modcons including a chef's kitchen and wonderful French windows opening out to the large shady verandah. It is a great place to get away for a few days and 'de-stress' - the loudest thing you will hear is a cow (some distance away), or possibly a sheep. And you can see the stars at night. The home is a short walk to the small township - which has some nice cafes, a couple of galleries and the very interesting museum 'age of fishes' about some local fossil discoveries. All in all - highly recommended. And thanks to our hosts - Jim and Anne.
We (a group of five adults) stayed at Tilga Guest Stay in April 2014. We were visiting the area for six nights, for ANZAC Day and the National Hot Air Ballooning championships. The house is supremely well-equipped, comfortably furnished, with an ample continental breakfast supplied. The home is located on a working farm, out of direct sight of the main house, with grape vines and sheep and a nice garden. The house is very handily located for visiting the attractions of Canowindra, as well as nearby Cowra and Carcoar.
